Overview

This course is suitable if you would like a career as a Dental Nurse. A Dental Nurse provides ‘chair-side support’ for the dental team, which includes dentists, dental therapists, hygienists and technicians. 


Dental Nurses may work in a variety of clinical environments and the course reflects all aspects of clinical responsibilities and duties of a Dental Nurse’s role and will provide the apprentice with the relevant qualification to apply to the General Dental Council (GDC) for professional registration as a Dental Nurse. 

Entry requirements

  • It is desirable that you have English and maths at grade C/4 or above or Level 2 Functional/Key Skills, although this is not essential as Level 2 Functional Skills can be delivered as part of the course.
  • Hepatitis B.
  • 16 years or above.

  • Provide Support During the Extraction of Teeth and Minor Oral Surgery Procedures
  • Dental Anatomy and Assessment of Oral Health
  • Reflect on and Develop Own Practice as a Dental Nurse
  • Provide Support During the Assessment of Individuals' Oral Health
  • Principles of Infection Control in the Dental Environment
  • Principles and Techniques of Dental Radiography
  • Contribute to the Production of Dental Images
  • Principles of Managing Oral Disease and Dental Procedures
  • Provide Support During the Prevention and Control of Periodontal Disease, Caries and the Restoration of Cavities
